The Bird & The Bee

Ok, i have to big up my man HasaanInsane for the "twitter" post reminder about this group.. i was put on to them at first while watching THIS episode segment of Tim & Eric's Awesome Show, Great Job. They have such a new-age, vintage style that's as refreshing as a Pineapple-Kettle-1 on the rocks with a lime and half a pineapple in Maui. This is one of my favs from them. Enjoy!

Charles Hamilton steals a beat...

taken from FreshSelects

Charles Hamilton steals beats:
Black Spade’s “Shinin’”

WRITTEN BY THE BLOGGER AT WWW.FRESHSELECTS.NET:

"Okay… so you guys know me, I usually play it cool on artists that I’m not into and instead, stick to supporting & promoting those that I do feel. But in this case, enough is enough - this Charles Hamilton shit needs to end already. And I’m not even tripping off of his personal life shit like a lotta people do - i.e. wearing pink, trying way to hard to make his fascination with Sonic characters sound deep when its not, his little schoolgirl blog writing style, etc. All of that is whatever to me - I’m talking strictly music and his career. Besides being massively underwhelming and suspiciously overrated as an “artist” - this dude has time and time again shown both a general lack of knowledge in hip-hop, as well as a arrogant disregard and overall lack of respect for it. You should already know how I feel about that wack ass mixtape he did over Dilla beats. And oddly enough, he left a comment replying to that post even though I never said his name in it and what he said just further confirmed that he is a newjack and doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about. Saying that he “anticipate[s] buying a real CD if it should drop” over a year and a half after the CD’s release date… ?!!?? LMnonpinkAO.

But whatever, I said my peace in my reply back to him, stayed cordial and kept it moving. Since then, I’ve been hearing a lot of stories about him being on some overall shady shit - jacking different producers’ beats and saying he did them, showing up unprepared for gigs & trying to use the opening act’s live band for his own set, starting YouTube/blog beefs with more established rappers, etc. But the e-mail that I got this morning from St. Louis producer/MC and Fresh Selects alumni, Black Spade, was the nail in the coffin as far as my tolerance for this dude.

Basically, Charles jacked a beat straight from Black Spade’s MySpace player and rapped over it, released the song on one of his endless barrage of half-assed & disposable mixtapes, and ironically ended up performing the song right in front of Black Spade at SXSW the other week. So Spade approaches him after the show saying that he did that beat but liked what he did with it (his opinion, not mine), asked where he got it from, etc. So the jig is up, right? Nope! Aparently, this fool Charles still tried to act like he made that beat and even went on to say that it was HIM singing on there, when anyone who’s ever heard a Black Spade song can clearly recognize that voice as Spade’s.

So with Charles refusing to admit that he took the beat from Black Spade, I’ve decided to post both of them here for you to decide for yourself. Below is Black Spade’s demo beat and then Charles’ song - both of which are coincidentally called “Shinin’.” Besides the different mix, you’ll notice that Charles’ song also has an intro before the beat drops - that’s something that Spade only included on the track when he uploaded it to MySpace, which is how he knows thats where Charles got it from. I’ve included the full e-mail I received from Black Spade after the jump to further explain the story and to seperate his thoughts on Charles from my own."

GO HERE to listen to both versions..

I never liked Charles Hamilton's music.. to jack a beat is one thing, but to blatantly claim that you made it, when you didn't, is bafoonery.. Black Spade, don't let this guy get away with this:

I'll tell you what.. Charles, if you are reading this (or anyone who may know him), post up the stems to the beat with ALL PARTS separated (at least 8 bar loops, kick, snare, hi hats, percussion, synths, "shinin" vocal, etc etc) with start points lined up.. and saying you "2-tracked" it from ya "beat machine" is unacceptable.. if you can provide this, then I will delete my post and whole-heartedly apologize.. (but probably still not cop your music lol).. this reminds me of that cat who took credit for APEX'S "I Get Money" beat for Fif, and tried to re-create it in the studio and made a complete bafoon of himself..

UPDATE:

So this cat responded to some hate on FRESHselect's site.. this was part of Charles Hamilton's reply:

“I see what it is, FRESHselects… so f*ck it. Let him think he made the beat and I jacked it. God/Satan sees all. And I’m leaving it at that.

Gone.

For now…”

KRS-ONE & BUCKSHOT album news

(swipe from www.hiphopdx.com)

In late 2007, KRS-One and Buckshot both announced that the veteran emcees from The Bronx and Brooklyn respectively would be linking for a collaborative, joint-venture LP. Nearly a year and a half later, sources close to Duck Down Records have confirmed the recording underway of this momentous meeting of the masters of ceremony.

The two emcees have reportedly opened the studio to an array of star-studded guests. Last Friday, Mary J Blige recorded for the project over a reportedly "tantalizing" Black Milk beat. The track is reportedly titled “On The Grind,” featuring Blige on the chorus, bridge and the song’s opening and closing. Over a decade ago, the Queen of Hip Hop/R&B worked with the label for her famed “I Love You” remix with Smif N’ Wessun.

Other confirmed guests to date are K’naan, as well as label-mates Naledge, Heltah Skeltah and the aforementioned Smif N Wessun. Production duties are already in the works for Havoc, 9th Wonder, Marco Polo, Khrysis, Illmind and MoSS.

While a star-studded list has already confirmed involvement, the Duck Down reps added that 50 Cent and Immortal Technique are also in discussion to appear.

The Havoc-produced track "Robot" will be turned into a video April 20th, directed by DXnext alum Todd Angkasuwan.

The KRS-One and Buckshot album is presently planned for August release through Duck Down Records.

Synesthesia - Music & Taste

Synesthesia is cool as hell.. here is an interesting video i found which talks about MUSIC & TASTE.. check it out!

Ever wondered what music tastes like? If you had a case of musical synesthesia then you might know. But for those unlucky enough no to have this rare neurological condition, Professor Funk shows just what the Imperial March from Star Wars might taste like.

Highlights the fascinating perceptual condition of synesthesia and the research being done on it in Dr. Eagleman's lab.

Expect more posts on Synesthesia in the near future!

Persistence

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and Determination alone are omnipotent.

I'm a science nut (pause).. here's an interesting video to get your brain cells warmed up.. something to think about.. although i disagree with the very end of the video (you'll see what I mean), from a scientific stand point, this is very interesting...
